From the moment John inquired with me, I immediately had the warmest feeling in my heart for these two! John was the most thoughtful speaker on our phone call, he was intentional with all of his ideas, and was such a kind person! I was immediately so impressed that he had thought of so many details, and with that, so many of the things that specifically meant a lot to his girlfriend Courtney.
Nantucket is a special place that John introduced Courtney to a few years back, while they were in the early stages of dating and getting to know one another. Over time, Nantucket has become one of their happy places to visit, and spend time together, making memories while their relationship bloomed into the love story that it is today. They enjoy Nantucket in all of its seasons, but always come back for Christmas Stroll, and Daffodil weekend, aka “Stroll,” and “Daffy” weeks by those of us who are loyal Nantucket lovers. So April became the perfect time for John to plan his proposal to Courtney. And this year we had the most beautiful, sun shiny day! It was pure sunshine, and for New England… well it was warm enough to be finally without our heavy winter coats, and get away with a sweater!
One funny part of this story… I typically friend people on Instagram, so that I can recognize them in such a secretive session, and also that way I have a good idea of what they look like. Well upon arriving on island early to enjoy the day, I went to my favorite Mexican place on Main Street, Nantaco (side note it is incredible), and when I walked up, I couldn’t believe my eyes!! Yep, I saw John and Courtney about 10 feet from where I was standing! HA! I tried to play it cool, and not make eye contact with John in case I made things awkward! Anyway, this helped because I knew what they were wearing and would spot them easily hah! John had the best pale yellow Vineyard Vines sweater for Daffy weekend, and this would be easy!
Anyway… back to the proposal! We made our way to Steps Beach, one of my favorite spots on island. Some of the best sunsets around, and it is also right within walking distance of my favorite restaurant, The Galley Beach, where you can have delicious, elegant dining, and also have your toes in the sand right on the beach. I hid in the perfect place in the seagrass, where I can see people as they descend down the long wooden steps to the ocean. I spotted the two of them coming down, and before I knew it I had followed from behind all the way down to the spot where John dropped to one knee, and asked Courtney to be his forever. It couldn’t have been more beautiful, and her smile and laughter is what makes these sessions my favorite! I always do a little mini engagement shoot after, and they could not have been cuter or more in love. Absolutely perfect evening for such a sweet couple! Congratulations again John + Courtney, I hope to see you on island again soon!
Joyfully,
Melissa
